Weekly Lunch
By Evolette Mak (11th Grade)
Every week, for over ten years, I have gone out to eat lunch with my
grandparents. In my opinion, the greatest value anyone can have is
prioritizing forging and building bonds with others, especially with
those who have experienced more than us. Sometimes, my grandparents
and I go to dimsum, traditional Cantonese and Chinese restaurants, and
explore other cuisines. However, I typically go over to their house
and my grandma graces the table with dishes made with love and years
of experience as a restaurant worker in a Chinese restaurant. We sit
down, talk about our day (in a mishmash of Cantonese, Chinese
Mandarin, and English), and occasionally enjoy dessert. This tradition
is very important to me because I was practically raised by my
grandparents, and eating together has kept our relationship strong as
we all change and get older.
