Making Latkes
Lauren Udovch (9th Grade)
Every year for 8 days my family celebrates Hanukkah, a Jewish Holiday. Our family isn't that religious so during Hanukkah we don't do anything too special. But every year during Hanukkah we make a big batch of latkes which are like a potato pancake. When I was younger I would always watch my mom every year during Hanukkah grate the potatoes and fry them in a hot pan of oil then serve them to my family. I would be astonished watching her concoct this wonderful meal later followed by lighting the Menorah. A few years ago I helped her make them for the first time and it was such a wonderful new feeling, getting to eat the dish that you spent your whole life wanting to make. I hope to forever continue this tradition of making latkes with a loved one and represent my Jewish culture.
