Hanukkah
By Maya Sears (10th grade)
Each year during Hanukkah, a holiday celebrated in the Jewish community, my family has a special tradition. We take turns lighting the candles on the Menorah every night, starting with my youngest sister on the first night, and ending with my Grandad on the last. It's something I look forward to because it gives each of us a moment to light the candles and recite the blessings together. On the first night, we light one candle along with the Shamash, or helper candle. As the nights go on, the glow of the menorah grows brighter as we add more candles. This is my favorite time of year when my family comes together to celebrate something we're
passionate about and hold close to our hearts.
