Dia de los Muertos
By Hunter Fasteau (10th Grade)
Every year since 2018, my family has celebrated Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a prominent date in Mexican and other Hispanic cultures. Occurring on November 1st and typically lasting through November 2nd, this day is dedicated to remembering the loved ones that have passed in your family lineage. I always remember the bonds and interactions held between family members on this day. My family always makes an altar, decorated with the traditional marigold flowers, as a way for spirits to locate their loved ones and their homes on the night when they become closer to their living relatives. This holiday is very important to me because this is one of the ways that I can remember my relatives who have moved on. My family and I often make traditional Mexican dishes and the dishes that our loved ones used to enjoy to commemorate their passing. I always look forward to celebrating this holiday every year.
